In between my weddings I managed to squeeze in a short break to visit my good friends Dorota and Michal in Warsaw, who are also known as Whitesmoke

There is some amazing photography coming out of Poland and these 2 are at the cutting edge. The style is different to what we see here in the UK and USA – a bit more grittier, more real life, not as fluffed up.

Although I do like some fluffy photography (I’m a romantic at heart !) its good to see alternatives.

These were all shot on the D700 with one lens, the 50mm. I would have liked wider at times particularly when I was shooting the demo but when traveling I like to be as light as possible. Besides its good to practise with one lens and makes you work and look more.

Warsaw is an interesting city and not as bad as I was lead to believe. Lots of interesting buildings and architecture (some of the Soviet stuff was interesting in particular the Cultural Palace) as well as excellent restaurants and bars. And of course friendly, welcoming people. I couldn’t have had a better welcome, so thanks again Dorota and Michal and hope to see you in London next !

Pip and her family have been good friends and clients over the years.

When Pip was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last October she and her family decided to throw their efforts into fundraising to help find a cure for this. It is not a common type of cancer so a lot more research is needed. Anyhow on a recent visit I took a few wacky, fun shots of Pip which she can use for her fundraising and to give her some more publicity.

Later on this year I’ll be offering a portrait voucher for just £15. This £15 will go directly to Pip’s fundraising and will will give you £100 worth of photography. Details will follow later.

Here are some favourites from an engagement portrait session in Windsor, Berkshire. This was of Anna and Kong and I’ll be doing their wedding photography at The Olde Bell in Hurley later this month. These are always fun and relaxed to do especially at a favourite location. As Anna and Kong both live in Windsor and the fact I attended a trade show there on the same day, this was an ideal location.

In fact the plan on their wedding day is to go for a short stroll around Windsor straight after the ceremony at The Guild Hall. This will be great fun and I’m sure the tourists will be snapping away like mad. So in a way this engagement shoot was like a warm up, rehearsal minus the white dress and suits of course. I love shooting in London and when Gerry and Rick (whose wedding I’ll be photographing at Monkey Island in Bray) asked me to take some engagement shots in Brick Lane I jumped at the chance. London, and in particular Brick Lane, offers such a variety of colours, cultures, and architecture. Its a photographers dream with endless possibilities for great shots wherever you turn.

Gerry and Rick were brought up in this part of the world and it also where they first met. So these images have even more meaning for them. As you can see we had scorching weather which created some harsh, contrasty light but which can also give a more fashion type look as well. At the end I was really pleased to get some shots on the Underground as Gerry and Rick headed off to see Andy Murray at Wimbledon. Here are some favourites below. I’ve processed a few in with a retro look which, although I don’t do often, looks quite effective here. Feel free to add any comments below

London engagement shoot

I was recently asked by one of my customers if I could help fund raise toward The Forest School in Winnersh and Ryeish Green school PTA. As this is for  local causes and the fact that I photograph lots of families and children I was delighted to help out.

What we have agreed is that you can purchase a portrait voucher valued at £100 for just £15. The £15 will go direct to the Schools’ PTA and for this you will receive your portrait voucher which you can use at my studio. £100 will cover the cost of a session (normal value £25) and will leave you with £75 in credit. Finished portraits start at £60 so you could have one of these with £15 left over to put towards anything else if you wish.

Their summer fayres are being held on Sunday 27 June (Forest) and Sat 3rd July (Ryeish Green) and you can purchase the vouchers there. There are no major terms and conditions. The session can be of an individual (baby, toddler, child), couples, families. You can also bring in your pets and grand parents ! All we ask is you must book the session within 1 month of receiving the voucher. However the session can be booked for upto 1 year ahead. Finally, the voucher cannot be used for weddings, corporate and business shoots.
